In 07, St. Louis resident Shelly Kozicki was the first person to start a Foundation-designated grant for applied research mesothelioma in honor of her husband Craig who was diagnosed with mesothelioma.
In 09, Craig died, but Shelly continued the fight for both of them. This year she has surpassed raised more than $ 250,000 for research during his Quartermania fundraiser in October.
During Mesothelioma Symposium last year, she and Erica Ruble presented a session entitled "The six stages of fundraising."
Shelly told participants that she took her anger and turned into action. She hopes her story will motivate others to participate as well. A summary of the session is described below.

A money-maker is a function within your event that raises additional funds for your charity. Examples include the sale of 50/50 raffle, hosting a silent auction, organizing an auction, get people to donate baskets to sell, make jello shots or having a drawing for a big ticket item.
