Many families come together to create lasting traditions for holidays, birthdays and other special events. Similarly, we in the mesothelioma community have come together to grow our own traditions. Since Congress officially created the Mesothelioma Awareness Day Sept. 26, 2010, all those affected by mesothelioma was invited to join that day to educate others about this rare and preventable cancer.
Here are 7 ways you can show your support for the community on this special day:
1. Organize a fundraiser
The organization of a fundraising event fund gives you access to other people in your community who are affected by this cancer. You can still raise funds to help improve research and treatment with a baking sale office, a 5k run / walk or awareness party. If planning events isn, AOT your forte, you could instead make a donation to one of the best charities, a treatment plant or a support group.
2. Contact your local media
Contact the media is another way to inform your community about Mesothelioma Awareness Day and the importance of mesothelioma education, research and advocacy. Ask your local media to do a story on the Mesothelioma Awareness Day or cover your fundraising event. The more people who are educated about the disease, a greater impact than we all can do.

3. Join the Meso Foundation's Today Show

Learn from the experiences of survivors can have a profound impact on newly diagnosed patients. To help connect everyone in the community, we have compiled survivor stories of patients and caregivers who have inspired others. Contact us to share your story and we will present on our Wall of Hope.
7. Wear your support
Show your support with one of our free awareness bracelets. Not only is it a way to encourage the near diagnosed with cancer, but it can also help prevent the disease by raising awareness about the dangers of asbestos.
