A Look Back on 09

A Look Back on 09 -

work day to day, it's easy to lose sight of the big picture. For this reason, I would like to take a moment to reflect on all that we have accomplished this year :. The battles we have won, the projects we have completed, and the goals we have achieved

There were a number of factors that made 09 an important year for our firm. In July, we celebrated our 10th anniversary. Since 1999, I took a lot of pride in the work of our lawyers and the dedicated staff who are committed to serve victims of mesothelioma. Thanks to their efforts, we have reached thousands of patients and their families and helped fight for their rights as they have faced this preventable, life-ending disease.

As part of the celebration of our 10th anniversary, we decided to change the name of our firm. As Simmons Hanly Conroy LLC, we will continue to build our legacy as one of the leading advocates in the nation for victims of mesothelioma and other asbestos related diseases. This new name reflects the role of leader took four of our partners, Perry Browder, Ted Gianaris, Michael Angelides, and John Barnerd. But since we know that the new name is a mouthful, we'll be more relaxed known as the Simmons Hanly Conroy.

In early 09, we had a further expansion of our partnership with the addition of six new partners. Each of these people continue to make extensive experience in asbestos litigation for our clients.

In 09, we intensified our ongoing efforts to raise awareness about mesothelioma and work to improve life in our community. As part of this effort, we sponsored the first "Miles for Meso," a 5K run / walk to raise money for research into mesothelioma. This inaugural event raised approximately $ 30,000 and attracted nearly 500 participants.

I am also very proud of the work by Simmons employees outside the workplace to help people in need. During the summer, the Simmons Employee Foundation (SEF) held an auction for dinner that generated more than $ 150,000 to support a variety of local charities. In November, the SEF held an annual food drive, collecting more than 50,000 pounds of food for the pantry Madison County. Even in this uncertain economic climate, Simmons employees made generous gifts that speak to their commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of others.

It is this spirit of service and commitment that we will take in the new year. As we move into 2010, we will continue to fight for the rights of patients and their families. We will work to raise awareness about mesothelioma, generate funds for research, and called for legislation to ban the use of asbestos. We are grateful for the year 09 and look forward to the challenges of the coming year.

Have a happy stay and safe. See you in the new year.
