Survivor Series Preview | James B. continues to raise awareness about mesothelioma -

James B. gave me a call to talk recently of mesothelioma fundraising event it will host in October. After a few minutes of conversation, I knew there was more to his story. It is James works with the State of Florida as a specialist outreach programs for disabled veterans. What does it mean that helps veterans find jobs it provides resume help, and it helps to overcome barriers to employment they may have. James really felt the need to get involved with veterans as he also served in the US Marine Corps.

When we returned about its fundraising, I find that his father, also named James, passed away from the asbestos cancer. This is what prompted his desire to host an event that would get some attention for mesothelioma awareness and hope. We retain her surname privacy.

How have you heard of mesothelioma?

My father was diagnosed with it in May 08 in Step 3 of 4.

Do you know where your father came into contact with asbestos ?

Then he served in the US Navy during Vietnam. He was a DC2 / Fire Fighter on the USS Coral Sea, an aircraft carrier.

What are the treatment options he chose to do it?

I do not know him from undergoing chemotherapy and other medication they gave him, but it prolongs the inevitable, unfortunately, because it was too far.

Where did you turn for information?

We (my family) just looked for information on the Internet as much as possible since my parents did not share too many details with us.

Tell us about how you honor.

I teamed with Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation (MARF), and I am in the process of organization "Football for a Cure," a special fundraising event with the proceeds to benefit the MARF. The event, to be held on November 9-11, 2012 Near Brandon FL, to raise funds and awareness for research while trying to break the world record for the longest ever played football game.

What message would you send to the community?

Get as educated as possible about mesothelioma and what treatment options are. Help to raise as much as possible. And if you know someone who has a relative or friend, support and cherish every minute you have with them. I saw what cancer can do first hand and I do not wish that on anyone.

We thank James for his courageous efforts to spread the word about mesothelioma and share his experiences with us. We wish him the best with football for treatment. For more information about Football for treatment, or to make a donation, visit their website.
