The project was created in 05 by Lung Moffitt Cancer Center and Thoracic Tumor Education (LATTE) program with photodocumentayrist Beth Reynolds. The collection includes 32 stories of lung cancer patients, caregivers and health care providers. There is so much to learn from the experience of the patient and family. With video conferencing, photo-essay is capable of generating and mixing information and powerful images with a richer representation, most complete one of the experience in words or pictures only. This collection of stories and photographs gives us a deeper understanding of the journey of a patient with lung cancer and their families, while helping to raise awareness of the disease and the importance of clinical research.
Photo exhibition has received national exposure and a display presented to numerous outreach events to lung cancer and support programs. In addition to the exhibition and book published, the site features audio, which allows visitors to hear the stories in their own words. The exhibition was recently expanded to include the first-hand experiences of our Hispanic patients and includes tests in Spanish.
The "Faces of Lung Cancer" project gives a voice and a face to the lung disease that is often plagued by stigma. The "Faces of Lung Cancer" project offers a message of hope to all and let newly diagnosed patients and families know they are not alone in their journey. Progress is being made as a result of clinical research and patients are integral to the success and continue to inspire us every day.
