Real Mesothelioma Stories: Norm -

Asbestos Exposure in the U.S. Navy Products containing asbestos have been around for years. Thousands of products still present in the workplace and older homes contain asbestos today. Throughout the twentieth century, many people who have worked in occupations that made or used asbestos products in the manufacturing process have been exposed to the toxic substance without proper protective equipment.

List of asbestos products is vast. Some items include floor tiles, insulation, decorative paints, cement, adhesives, electrical son, ceiling tiles, roof shingles, joint compounds and many more. While the production of these products has exploded in the 100s, responsible workers of their production began developing illnesses linked to asbestos, such as mesothelioma.

Norm was one of those workers.

Meet Norm

Norm is a former client of the firm. He started working with his father in the family business CVC in 1949. He was 12 when he was exposed to products containing asbestos. However, his exposure to asbestos does not end there. He was also a member of the US Navy, where he worked as an experimental metal worker, is boilerplate for nuclear submarines, and was a member of the Metal Workers Union leaf.

In addition to these jobs, Norm eventually started his own general building and renovation, which has become a successful business over 20 years.

"Norm had no idea that the materials he was working on a daily basis such as joint compound, floor tile pipe, roofing shingles, and cement, would eventually cause fatal disease," said asbestos Attorney Taylor Kerns. "Not once during his long career working with asbestos was he never warned against its dangers."

Norm retired in 06, and four years later was diagnosed with mesothelioma. Before his diagnosis, Norm had been a healthy, active person who enjoyed being outdoors and participating in numerous hobbies. His diagnosis made him spend his last days struggling to breathe or get out of bed He died in January 2012.

Before Norm died, he and his wife Fail obtained a settlement with the help of the firm, which provided Norm peace of mind about the future of his family . One aspect of that peace of mind came when Norm and Gail paid their mortgage and held a mortgage burning party.
