Hello again! For a long time. I'm back on dry land in Australia and blogging after more than two weeks of vacation sailing on a cruise around Asia.
There were more than 2,000 passengers, mostly between the ages of 60 and 0. Naturally, much of them have had their share of health problems related to age or serious illness, including cancer. While some relied on mobility aids such as wheelchairs and canes, many were accompanied by relatives who doubled as traveling partners and caregivers.
While sailing on a cruise ship will not miraculously removes a patient's symptoms or diminish the responsibility of a caregiver traveling, it serves as respite to daily repetitive routines of the two individuals with additional bonus relaxation, entertainment, share new experiences and social interaction with strangers.
cruise when you have a serious illness
Although relaxation and websites are great, it does not mean accidents do not occur. It is recommended for those traveling to take out travel insurance, and it is vital if you are seriously ill.
Arranging travel insurance when gravely ill not an easy exercise. The majority of travel agents ?? if not all of them ?? asks whether there are pre-existing health conditions and will not provide coverage for people who suffer from diseases limiting life like mesothelioma and other cancers.
are advised not to take out travel insurance without disclosing the true state of your health, because in case of need to make a claim, the company will realize the pre-existing condition and can refuse to cover the full cost. Worse, they may refuse to cover all costs.
Naturally, medical costs can be extremely high, especially if the patient needs vessel's air travel to a hospital, or whether the vessel should return to another port.
Fortunately, there are travel insurance companies that will cover pre-existing conditions and these can be obtained via the Internet
Here are some that I found:.
- Squaremouth
- Good Neighbor Insurance
- eHealth Insurance
Access to a doctor edge and the medical team also a great advantage.
The patient may appoint a doctor in a medical emergency, and the caregiver can release some of their anxiety. It allows the caregiver some time to spend socializing with other passengers while their close rests securely in their cabin.
Travel Made Easy
In addition to planning to travel insurance, another thing to plan when taking a holiday, especially when it involves a person dealing with a debilitating disease serious, is how you and they will move from one place to another.
holidays often involve taking taxis, trains, short air travel and other forms of travel that could become embarrassing for a person suffering from a disease and for their caregivers.
the wonderful thing about taking a cruise is that, once on board the ship, you avoid this hassle, and that takes a lot of stress off caregiver and patient. You will probably have to face this travel dilemma if you decide to disembark at each port of call, but cruise ships these days pack so much entertainment that some travelers spend more time on board and on land.
Cruise Ship Entertainment is all around you
Entertaining people is the specialty of a cruise liner. Whichever cruise you choose, you will find there are many opportunities to find something that appeals to you and your abilities
Daytime activities may include :. Cooking demonstrations, lectures on interesting topics, morning sessions and afternoon trivia, bingo and dancing lessons ballroom. If you are the type most energetic, he is aboard the shuttle platform, as well as a variety of activities around the pool.
On my particular boat, they screened a film throughout the day and evening on a large screen raised by the pool. Casual dining was available at all times on the deck and many passengers enjoyed a meal while watching a movie.
Evening activities on most ships include performances in one of the ship's theaters and live bands performing in various bars and open areas.
Enjoying rest and relaxation on the high seas
Cruising, no matter the destination or duration, is an incredible experience and a unique opportunity for all passengers on board to really find rest and relaxing
the only passengers must make decisions every day: .. choose what to eat, what is the place to enjoy their meal, and the type of entertainment
the cruise ships are ingeniously designed to provide everything a passenger might need in one place without worrying about anything. If a dose of fresh air and sunshine is what you are looking, the cruise ships have rows and rows of chairs. If you are looking for an evening activity, enjoy a little moonlight and stargazing on a lounger.
Passengers can choose a full day of activity or remains calm spent with a good book. Most ships are equipped with a well-stocked library, and there are ample places on board where passengers can enjoy reading. On my cruise, I noticed many people enjoying a good read in small corners. These areas were also popular for those who want to play a quiet game of cards.
A brief break from cooking and cleaning
Imagine what it is not cooking or dishes for all of your holiday. I can tell you, it is absolutely wonderful and when it comes to food on cruise ships, it is rich. One warning: It is not a good idea to travel on a cruise with any thought of a plan in mind
Formal dining or casual is available, and both offer a wide choice of dishes. Most ships have several dining rooms. Room service is also available for those times when you feel like enjoying a relaxing meal in your cabin.
Three main meals aside, the food is available 24/7 on a cruise ship and passengers can enjoy a snack whenever they want. On my cruise, there was a cafe that provided deliciously naughty things like cheesecake, chocolate mousse, and a host of equally tempting treats that were to be tasted to be believed.
Naturally the coffee was very popular with many passengers and a great place to mingle with other travelers over a cup of coffee. Sometimes it was impossible to find a vacant seat.
Patients and their caregivers fun together
Every day I noticed torque ?? affectionate patients and their caregivers ?? participate in activities on the ship and take the opportunity to have fun together.
It was wonderful to see the smiles on the faces of those who may not find much to smile about.
Remember that this is a vacation. Let go of some of your worries and enjoy this special time together.
Good cruise
