Chemotherapy is a stressful experience for many cancer patients
The largest sources of stress.? Potential side effects, nervousness about the appointment and not knowing what to expect.
Some patients develop the disease early. These patients become physically ill before they arrive at the center of chemotherapy because their brain associates the process with nausea and vomiting.
To make appointments less stressful, some patients turn to natural methods of relaxation rather than anti-anxiety medications.
Oncologists often recommend deep breathing, visualization methods, distraction techniques and meditation even for chemotherapy patients. Patients may also bring soothing aromatherapy with them to the appointment or stimulate the reflexology points associated with relaxation during infusion.
Choose one of these methods is often a matter of personal preference. What works for some patients do not work for others
However, a recent study in the December issue of Complementary Therapies in Medicine took a look at the effectiveness both relaxation therapies :. Music therapy with monotonous sound and progressive muscle relaxation.
patients who have participated in one of these therapies have shown an improvement in their physical and psychological condition, as well as lower levels of anxiety. Music therapy also reduced the activity of the alpha band in the brain.
Monochord Therapy
Music therapy can involve either creating or listening to music. For purposes of this study, however, music therapy called to listen to music from a single stringed instrument called the monochord.
Monochord therapy is also sometimes referred to as vibrational healing monochord. When a musician plays the monochord, it releases vibrations in the air. Pythagoras developed a healing diet with these vibrations there are several thousands of years.
As the vibrations flow in the patient's body, they embark on internal healing mechanisms. The soothing sound of the instrument can also help patients to focus on something other than anxiety therapy.
Progressive muscle relaxation
The other group of patients in the study used progressive muscle relaxation to die -stress during chemotherapy.
progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) is a technique commonly used in counseling sessions. It is a very simple technique that can replace natural "fight or flight" inclination of the body and replace it with a relaxation response. The process finally releases the tension that the body is stored in every muscle.
The patients can perform progressive muscle relaxation independently, or they can use a guided audio tape. the therapy can last as long or be ?? faster ?? desires of patients. typical guidelines recommend spending at least 10 seconds each muscle group, but patients can repeat the cycles until they feel more calm and relaxed.
