The Support Center Legal Clinic and Veterans (VLSC) at the John Marshall Law School was one of the first clinics specifically established to help veterans of our country. Each year, our veterans are returning home with injuries life-changing and, unfortunately, many of these veterans will not be able to afford or locate legal representation can help to sort out their affairs. This is something John Marshall Law School is trying to change, and Simmons Hanly Conroy is right on board.
The Simmons Hanly Conroy recently worked with Madison County Bar Association to provide the VLSC awareness training. The effort was led by Simmons Hanly Conroy lawyer Karoline Carstens and Amy Garrett firm partner, both centered on helping victims of mesothelioma and asbestos exposure. The training program was attended by nearly 40 lawyers. At present, more than 15 lawyers in the firm are able to help the VLSC with pro-bono cases.
Pro-bono work is undoubtedly extremely important for our lawyers. Simmons Hanly Conroy has represented more than 100 St. Louis Veterans of the area and helped obtain $ 13 million in compensation for workers who had contracted thorium exposure to cancer while weapons nuclear in Madison, IL.
Last year the Association of the Bar of Illinois recognized Simmons Hanly Conroy with John C. Price McAndrews. The award is given to members of the profession who demonstrate an extraordinary commitment to provide free legal services to people who can not otherwise afford.
The VLSC is dedicated to serving the men and women who have served our nation, and Simmons Hanly Conroy is proud to participate in the effort to provide our veterans with the experienced legal help they deserve.
